Opinion: Why Fall is the perfect season to visit Walt Disney World?
Ever since I’ve started visiting Walt Disney World in Orlando years and years ago, I knew I will be back… and that I will be back a lot, and often… I absolutely love checking in with my pal, Mickey and Friends, and I love sending my clients to Disney World even more than I like going there myself. I don’t even know how many times I have been to Disney over the years, but I know that I have been during every season of the year…. And I definitely have a favorite one. As you’d expect after reading the title of this blog, it is FALL. Fall is Disney is magical, and here are the reasons why I think so:
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
Halloween Party is a separately ticketed event inside the Magic Kingdom Theme Park, and it starts as early as August, and lasts until October 31. On select nights during these months, guests can celebrate Halloween after regular day guests of the park leave. With the Party tickets, you get access to Magic Kingdom park as early at 4 pm. The party officially starts at 7 pm, but you can arrive early and try to squeeze in few extra rides. As the guest of the Halloween Party, you will receive a special bracelet, indicating to the Cast Members that you have purchased your party tickets. Day guests who didn’t get their party tickets will be asked to leave Magic Kingdom before the party officially starts.
During the party, you will be able to take pictures with Disney characters, dressed in their Halloween costumes, enjoy special Parade and shows in front of the Cinderella’s Castle. You will be able to find special party-exclusive snacks and merchandise at different locations throughout the park. And the best part: you will be able to go Trick-or-Treating and fill up bags with all the candy and chocolates you can desire. There are multiple locations to collect candies, and trust me when I say: Disney is super generous with their candy, and it’s THE GOOD CANDY! We brought home multiple bags of chocolates. And don’t worry about bringing a bag, Disney will provide a special bag for you to use.
The biggest benefit of attending the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is the limited number of guests in the park during the event. Less people means shorter lines to the rides. Most rides had no or very minimal wait times. We have walked on the Runaway Railroad ride without any wait multiple times in the row. How fun! The more popular rides, like the newest TRON (by the way, it’s hands down the best ride in all the parks!) will have a slightly longer wait, which is too be expected, but still much shorter than during a regular day at the park. We only waited about 30 minutes for Tron.
During the party, you can stay at the park until midnight. And don’t forget to catch the fireworks show! Disney is known for their amazing pirotechnics displays!
The Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is absolutely fun for the whole family (it’s not the scary creepy Halloween - it’s the cute type), and I strongly encourage you to buy those tickets as soon as they become available. They do sell out every year! Let me know if you’d like to be notified when tickets for 2025 Halloween Season become available!Milder weather
Fall can be a very pleasant time for a visit to Central Florida. The hot and humid summer days are over, and as long as there is no hurricane on the horizon, it’s the perfect time for a visit. It’s still warm, and sunny, and just overall a great time to enjoy the Sunshine State. Standing in lines for the rides is more bearable during Fall, and you most likely won’t look like you just got out of the shower 10 minutes after walking into the parks.
Will there be rain? Probably yes, at some point during your visit…. It is hurricane season after all, but with the right attitude, it won’t ruin your trip. You’re at Disney after all, and a rainy day at Disney is better, than a sunny day at home. Since it is hurricane season (May through November), always remember to purchase travel insurance, so you have coverage if unexpected happens, and you can pivot your plans if a storm is brewing.Lower crowds
While still popular time, Fall tends to have slightly lower crowds in the parks, and that means shorter lines for the rides. Disney is busy all year round, so expect people, but from my observations from my many visits at different times of the year, Fall seems to attract lower crowds. With the beginning of the school year, and Holidays just around the corner, people tend to focus their attention and money on their households, and not visits to the parks. So take advantage, and plan a trip to Disney for Fall!Better pricing
With lower demand and hurricane season in the full swing, you can expect slightly better pricing during Fall season. Disney wants to fill in their resorts and parks, so they usually offer some great promotions for the third quarter of the year.
How to take advantage of the best pricing for your Disney trip? First, make sure to reach out to your travel advisor (aka ME), and get your Fall getaway booked as early as possible. Put down the $200 deposit for your hotel + park tickets package, and leave the rest to your TA. Book early, and your Travel Advisor (again - ME) will keep an eye out on the sales and promotions, and adjust your package once the Fall sales become available. That way you have the opportunity to get the exact resort and room type you’d like, and the price you’re securing will be “the worst case scenario,” as it will be locked in, and won’t go up, but it can be adjusted down if the promotion becomes available. Talk to your travel advisor (me) about the whole process in detail.Fall decor
If you’re a Fall-loving person, you MUST go to Disney during that time. The parks and resorts are decorated for the season, and it’s all just so adorable. The Mickey-shaped pumpkins, Fall leaves… You can also buy seasonal Fall decor for your own home. It’s a very fun time to explore the parks.
