If you’re undecided where you want to road trip this year, I put together a small inspiration list of itineraries, and i hope you’ll find something you love. And if you’re still undecided, and feeling overwhelmed, or don’t even know where to start the planning process, don’t hesitate to reach out to me for assistance! I would love to help with planning your next road trip!

  1. South Dakota & Wyoming

If you have at least a week (more is better) for your road adventure, head to Black Hills of South Dakota for 2-3 days (or more) of fun. Visit Mt. Rushmore National Museum, Wind Cave National Park, Badlands National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Custer State Park, Needles Highway, Deadwood, and so much more. This area is packed with things to do for the whole family. You could easily spend a week just in South Dakota.
After SD, head towards Wyoming, stopping at the Devils Tower in the Eastern WY. Then continue towards Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. You can easily spend multiple days in each park, so plan to stay here a while. Don’t miss a visit in Jackson. Activities are abundant in this area, and vistas are increadible.

  2. Utah and Arizona from Las Vegas and/or Phoenix

This was one of our first roadtrips we did as a family of 4, and it was so much fun! We flew into Las Vegas, rented a car, and headed towards Utah. We visited Bryce Canyon National Park, but you can also stop by Zion National Park (we did on another occasion). Both are wonderful and so worth a visit! Later, head to Page, AZ for a classic picture at Horseshoe Bend! Visit Monument Valley, and head towards Grand Canyon National Park! Make sure you go to the South Rim for incredible views and lots of amenities. Consider staying here for few days! From here you have 2 options - going back to Las Vegas OR going towards Phoenix, with a stopover in amazing Sedona! If you have the time, I would strongly encourage you to incorporate Sedona in your itinerary!

  3. Historic East Coast in the Fall

Of course you can visit any time of the year, but early Fall, right when the leaves start to change and weather is mild, is in my opinion the best time for a roadtrip to the East Coast. Make sure to visit Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park in Maine. Plan a visit to historic Boston and Salem in Massachusetts. If time and weather allows you can also add Cape Cod and Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard (probably best in the summer for these spots). Finish your adventure in New York City. Of course there are plenty of smaller places you may want to visit along the route, so make sure to spend some time researching to see what you’d really like to explore (or hire a professional, aka me, to plan this trip for you!).

  4. Classic California

North to South, or South to North, doesn’t rally matter, but this classic California coast itinerary is a must! BUT! Before you head out! Make sure that Pacific Coast Highway is passable! There has been road closures due to mudslides so just do your research before you settle on this route. If PCH is not an option all the way through, you can still drive parts of it. Start in San Francisco for couple of days, then head south towards Monterey and Big Sur! After a day or two by the beach, head in land towards Yosemite National Park. Couple of days will allow to get a taste of this amazing area. Later, head south towards Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. If you only have one day here, you can hit the major sites in both parks, as they really close by. Plan for couple of days in the City of Angels, if you haven’t done the classic touristy LA sites…. Visit Hollywood, Griffith Observatory, Santa Monica Beach and Pier, and my must-do: Sunset on a Malibu beach! If you have more time, continue to San Diego for sun and beach. San Diego offers lots of activities for families, so it’s a great spot to end your family roadtrip. If San Diego or LA don’t seem appealing to you, Palm Springs and Joshua Tree National Park are amazing alternatives!

  5. Denver to Salt Lake City (or reversed)

Start in the Colorado Springs area, and visit Canon City for a beautiful train ride through Royal Gorge. Later head north, towards Ester Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. The views here were to die for! Continue towards Utah on US-70, through towns like Silverthorne, Vail, Avon and more. Enjoy hot springs in Glenwood Springs, then continue towards Utah. Once in Utah, head south towards Moab for a few days of amazing adventures. Visit Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Parks, Capitol Reef National Park, and don’t miss Dead Horse Point State Park. Moab is great for an adventurer in you. Rent an ATV or go on a Hummer tour like you’ve never seen before! Trust me! If you enjoy boats, take a boat tour on Colorado River. Ride a zip line or go on a mountain bike tour. There’s no end to an adventure here! Finally, head to Park City for a few nights of luxury at one of the resorts in the area.

Don’t forget! You don’t have to do all the work and research on your own! I’d love to talk to you about your roadtrip plans and help you put together an amazing adventure that everyone will love. Planning an incredible road trip is very time consuming and requires lots of research! But I can do all that for you! Let’s talk!
