Very often, when I scroll the feed on social media (especially local Facebook groups), I see a question posted, usually by an anonyms person… It may not be worded exactly the same, but the idea is the same…
“Is it better to book my trip to (fill in your destination) by myself or with a travel agent?”
Usually, my first reaction is to say: “If the only thing you worry about is the cheapest price, please book on your own.” But then, I realize that some people genuinely don’t know all the benefits of working with a professional travel advisor. The way TAs work these days, and the value they provide has changed significantly over the years…. This profession is nothing like it used to be years ago, so I thought it would be a good idea to share some of the benefits, and my thoughts on working with professional travel advisor.
Let me start by saying, if price is all you worry about, just book on your own (yes, I said what I said). However, if VALUE is what you are after, then keep reading… While a professional and experienced TA will do their best to get you the lowest price available, the benefits of working with TAs are not just simply monetary. If you are looking for a personalized service, customized-to-you itinerary, support every step of the way, done-for-you research and planning, best value for your money…etc. you should most certainly work with a TA to curate that perfect trip.
I think the biggest savings you will notice when working with a TA is time saving. Have you ever tracked how much time it takes you to research, book and plan every detail of your trip? Because I have! How much is your time worth? Wouldn’t you rather spend that time relaxing, having fun with family or friends… or simply enjoying life, instead of spending countless hours in front of the screen? TA can do all that work for you quicker and more efficiently with the best results.
As a professional, I curate and design each trip specifically to my clients’ wants and needs. No 2 trips are the same. When researching my clients’ travel, I take into consideration many aspects, like must-haves, budget, past trips, hobbies, and so much more. The more I work with someone, the more I get to know them and what they like and dislike, and that allows me to make better suggestions every time we plan a new trip!
